This new academic facility at Harper College cohesively integrates more than a dozen educational health, science, and technology programs into a single building which establishes a new benchmark for academic excellence, student collaboration and environmental stewardship.
Originally intended as three separate building programs, it was determined that a combined single building offered economic efficiencies and a unique environment to promote student and faculty interaction. This objective is satisfied through a number of programmatic and design features including:
- A 600’ long multi-story concourse
- A special computer “mega lab” that provides flexible teaching space
- Faculty offices located along major circulation paths in close proximity to classrooms and labs
The project incorporates many sustainable design strategies. Of particular note is the ventilated exterior cladding system that encloses the classroom wings. The project is the largest installation in the United States of the specified phenolic resin wall panel system.
The project was completed while I was working for HOK.
